During our interview with Ree Soesbee, it was mentioned that players would have the ability to read collected short stories of lore that could be found throughout Tyria. Althought the complete works were not available in the beta, in this video we are able to show you the titles of several books sitting upon the scattered carts in Divinity’s Reach.

That is pretty cool. Talk about immersion!

I love that sort of stuff.
I had a house full of books that I have collected from various quests and stuff in EQ2.
During the press beta weekend I ended up running all over Divinity's Reach to read the books as soon as I came across the first one. Even if they're not collectable like the skill challenge tomes, it's still a nice touch of immersion for players like me who will run around looking for random objects to interact with.
@Haelyn - I was the same way back when I was still actively playing EQ2. After I moved my necro to Neriak I set up one of the rooms in his house as a library and had mountains of books stacked all over the place. And bats. At one point I had about 20 of the things all flying around in there to ward off anyone who wanted to make off with my collection!
Ahh EQ2 book collections: I had copious books arranged on shelves etc. in the few homes I had. My 'acorn' had enlarged Oggok furniture clipped into the walls so that it looked like a cave. I had a game table in the main room with all kinds of floaty pets playing poker at it. The last addition was a good sized harpy flapping above the downstairs of my last house which had huge hedge maze walls on the balcony.
Wish you could actually read the books.
Doesn't have to be a full book. Only a few paragraphs at most (the text and pictures are loaded via HTML calling, so books are more like web browsers with a fixed URL and view). Mabinogi pulled this off almost flawlessly.
Deadpan snarking isn't.
This article indicates that you will in fact be able to open the books and read them, although it wasn't functional during that part of the beta.
Yeah, I read somewhere a while back (maybe it was an interview with RS?), that lore would be spread around in tomes etc.
Neat, thanks.
I love little details of lore scattered in an open-world, sandbox game.
Deadpan snarking isn't.
I lost it when I saw Koss on Koss. What we really need is a nearby book vendor yelling stuff along the lines "You buyn' that or what?" or "You're a bit too young for that one"
