Gamescom is one of the largest, if not the largest gaming industry event in Europe, held each August in Cologne, Germany. It also tends to be a massive hotspot for Guild Wars 2 fans, with major gameplay announcements, costume contests, and other fan events held over the past couple of years.
While ArenaNet hasn't announced their summer event schedule quite yet, it would be pretty surprising if they opted out of attending gamescom. As soon as any details emerge re: Anet's attendance this year we'll be sure to update this page for your travel planning enjoyment.
