Black Lion Underground - 18 October 2012

October 18, 2012 - 1:16am -- Xerin
Black Lion Underground

In the last Black Lion Underground I finished on around 24g having set out to test the limits of the Mystic Forge, armed with 3g and a stack of Major Runes (in the hopes of obtaining Superiors).  What I will say now, is that it really isn’t worth your time.  It’s quicker, easier and much more cost efficient to simply buy the Runes you need rather than playing roulette.  It was relatively apparent in only a matter of moments that this gambling wasn’t going to pay off and after numerous buy orders were fulfilled and thrown into the Mystic Forge I only just broke even, when selling such Runes back to the Trading Post.

Now that I’ve explored that avenue and can firmly forget it ever happened, you’re likely going to be intrigued with how I’ve jumped from 24g to 55g within the space of a week (15 of which is in the Trading Post as buy orders). What I will say, first and foremost, is that I don’t actively use the Trading Post all week in the run up to producing these columns.  Far from it, in fact my total Trading Post time this week (to obtain an additional 20g) has been as little as 1 hour.

Guild Wars 2 Trading Post

You’re probably getting excited at the thought of this vast wealth pouring into your Trading Post coffers, but there really is no rocket science behind it.  Admittedly you need some capital to make it work but as little as 1g will see you turn a profit quickly.

The key is simply to place a huge quantity of buy orders, across any and all products on the Trading Post and re-listing them at a higher price, but slightly lower than those already selling.  The only limit here however is ensuring that your buy orders are fulfilled so you can actually flip the goods to then make the profit.

As it currently stands, I have 15 gold’s worth of buy orders on the Trading Post and if all were to succeed, I would within 24 hours make 15g profit (if those all sold).  However, not all my buy orders will succeed (based on other people placing higher buy orders) but for the most part, many will (around 75%).

Yesterday morning I removed any buy orders that had been up for more than 10 hours and armed with 10g bought a vast variety of items that I knew, if re-listed at the Buy Now price, would make me 1 silver profit at the very least. If you utilise the Trading Posts search system, it only takes a master of minutes to refine the items you’re looking for, methodically going through each category placing buy orders.

I work my way through bags, weapons (ranging from level 65-80 of Masterwork or above, daggers, swords, saffs and pistols are my favourite) armour (any types) runes, sigils and generally anything in between.  I will stress, there really is no logic here besides the profit margin.  It wouldn’t matter if it was cinnamon sticks or 10 slot wool bags.  If there’s a minimum of 1s profit in a re-sale, I’ll buy it.

This obviously means a little work on your part and it can be frustrating to be outbid, but as stated above, 75% of my orders are fulfilled and I’ve yet to have my items that I’m then selling on, go unsold for long. On that basis, the earning potential here is only limited by how many buy orders you can place, fulfill and relist. Out of the 10g I spent yesterday, I’ve already made 4g 88s profit, with many items still left to sell.

I then instantly jump back into the Trading Post and repeat the cycle.  It’s painfully easy, quick and requires little or no thought.

What I am going to do in the coming days is throw all my money at this method, placing buy orders worth 40g in the hopes of finally (and quickly) bursting the 100g barrier.

Tip Of The Day

Gem prices are only going to go one way during Halloween and that is up.  As they are already rising daily, I'd recommend you begin converting your silver into them as it's likely your money will double in the next few days.

I've been thinking about gems for a while - their price seems to be steadily increasing anyway, so they would be a sure bet. I think I'll go buy some laugh

Are you a guardian? Let me introduce you to my Flesh Golem, he's getting a bit hungry.

What I'm noticing about the pricing is that you can get 9 gold for 2k of gems but it takes 14 gold to 2k of gems. So buying in a rising market is going to cost you.
