Greetings Heroes of Tyria,
We wanted to give you all an update on the Difficulty of BWE3, as it has been the topic of many conversations recently.
First of all, it is important to understand that the game is still in Beta and that we continue to balance on a daily basis. This said, and as usual, your feedback has proven invaluable. Following the weekend we drilled into our Event metrics, and discovered that the difficulty had indeed changed between BWE3 vs. BWE2. We moved ahead with a check on our core systems to find out if any global change/bug had incurred a generic adjustment to the balance of the game. Quickly we found this to be the case, and the issue has now been corrected.
We also wanted to take the time to mention, that we feel the overall pacing of the game is exactly where we want it. Specifically that we do not want the player to be in a constant state of overly challenging gameplay, and therefore the difficulty is now reflective of the balance found in BWE2, without a change in overall pacing.
Finally, we continue to balance both our creatures and our professions. Your feedback, once again has proven invaluable to us, and we ask that you continue to let us know what you think about the game, and keep posting your suggestions as we get ever closer to the release of Guild Wars 2.
See you in Tyria!

I did a ton of events with a group of 3 or 4 people max and difficulty seemed just right.
Apart from the rare event here and there *cough* fire elemental *cough*, the difficulty has been perfect. Never too easy to faceroll stuff, and hard enough that you need to play with a modicum of skill to complete it. It's good to know they look carefully at the balance though.
I agree with difficulty being fine and there no being need to make it easier, but maybe it's supposed to be easy in the starting zones? Let's hope it gets more difficult later on.
If nothing else, going to higher level content should do it. Trash mobs that can 1 hit you ftw!

BWE3 was definitely easier. I saw groups of 4-5 players working together to take down the Flame Shaman in the Charr starter area.
In BWE 1&2 there were literally anywhere between 20-30 corpses at the feet of the Shaman at any one time.
Yeah, the flame shaman has been toned down considerably, making him a lot easier to defeat. Perhaps even too easy, but I guess it's a starting zone, so they shouldn't have stupendously hard foes.
I'm hoping the fire elemental in Metrica Province gets toned down a bit, but not too much. It'll be good to have at least one tough boss per area, where you really need to coordinate with fellow players to bring the boss down. Promote teamwork and use of skill early on.
Oh, good to know, here I thought they were going to take all the challenge away.
Ahh.. I remember taking a short break from PvP and doing a bit personal story during the first BWE and not bothering to level at all. I ended up being like 8 levels underleveled and getting 1 shotted every time I failed to dodge with my thief. I got killed like 10 times during the circus personal story by those stalkers that could stealth. Good times, good times

The Charr Effigy was pretty tough with 3-5 people. It's burning attacks alone would dot you to death, much less the flame legion accompanying it. I did this event twice. The second time it had gotten around a bit further and I was able to jump on some guns nearby and range it from a distance while other players kited it around.
I fought that charr effigy during the stress test yesterday, and got burned down pretty quick, despite no visible signs (red circles etc). Wasn't quite sure what was hitting me! Took it down eventually, and was very thankful for my downed skill 3 as a ranger, reviving my pet and getting it to heal me. Rallied me more than once.
Despite that, I would like Anet to keep these tougher challenges in the game, for sure.
