Bedlam: Sandbox with a purpose.

July 25, 2012 - 11:25am -- Raditz

Bedlam is now seeking those who want to be with a great minded, adaptable and VERY easy going folks like yourself to play on US Server/World

Bedlam is doing something different than MANY guilds are planning. While not to discount or attempt to be negative, what our plans in WvWvW are: instead of massive, epic raids against main Keeps. We are going to focus on the smaller targets such as Supply bases/caravans, forts and even towers. While it is without a doubt a requirement that taking the Keep is an epic battle of epic importance, what we noticed during Beta weekend was: MANY ignored the smaller outposts.

Whether Bedlam has a guild of 50 or 100 or even 1000, we will attempt to work in 8-12 man teams where the focus is on taking these smaller targets with lightning speed and efficiency. We then will be ensuring that adequate supplies are carried with our group so that defenses are able to re-built along with upgrades and then defended by a small group. Our end goal is such that not only do we take the location, that we will hold it and the enemy will be forced to throw many, many more of their characters against us, which will give our allied guilds the ability to focus more on the larger targets.

Guild Wars 2 in our opinion is so dependent upon guilds and groups working together that we created a guild just to further help our world to have dominance and to ensure that their manpower is focused upon the task of taking those large Keeps.

PvE'ers, we FULLY support you. I will be very blunt here when I say: PvE in Guild Wars 2 "at least in Beta" was a truly enjoyable and great experience overall, I and all members of Bedlam had an incredible time playing PvE and to deny PvE to our members is not and will NEVER happen...in fact it is encouraged.

Crafting it seems will be a very useful experience in GW2, where some MMO's have had a broken/useless crafting system. It would appear and seem that Crafting in GW2 is both useful and beneficial to everyone. Coming from a SWTOR player, I assure you that this is more than just a breath of fresh air. Posted Image

If you are wondering about our "Rank" system, we do not have 5, 10 or20 "Ranks" to climb through the guild. I personally have found only issues and drama that arise with ranks and such, what our members and myself have only wanted was: a group of people that enjoy each others company, treat each other with respect and consideration.

Where some guilds have many rules and initiations procedures to go through, we have taken the: Let's try to get to know the person applying and see how they do method. One thing that I have learned is: someone who is GREAT at PvP in "x" game, may not be as great in "y" Game, anyone can surprise in any game and as long as your attitude is good, then we are good with having you on our team. Experienced, in-experienced, casual or hardcore. Everyone has their place in Bedlam and all are welcome to see if we and you fit in.

MMO's are a game and games are supposed to be fun, they should be your "escape" from your day to day life, they should be your "way" to relax and unwind when the kids are asleep, homework is done or a project for work finally reaches its conclusion.

Are you ready? Are you excited? Just click the link and help Bedlam become the friendly and fun guild that it is designed to be, surrounded by fun loving individuals just as yourself.

Bedlam, "Bringing chaos, confusion and disorder to our enemies."

Quite a bit of activity at Bedlam, between new members joining our ranks, guild website being polished up, members chatting on Vent about ideas and plans for their character builds during launch.  Then joining with the Tyrian Network. "Guild Alliance of multiple guilds"

Just so much happening and all of it is positive.

Stop on by Bedlam to see an unorthodox guild prove their unorthodox methods DO work and work well.

WvWvW focused and PvE friendly

More and more members have joined Bedlam, please take a few minutes to see for yourself how this guild has taken a focused approach towards WvWvW.  If you are looking to join the "Zerg" then Bedlam is NOT for you.

The mass grouping of hundreds towards one target...is not our purpose, nor anything that interests us even a little bit.

However, if intensive fighting, lightning strikes, cohesive units fighting in small groups where leaders are not assigned or micro-managed.  Where you join/lead groups on your OWN free will and desire.

If the desire to work with and lead small groups interests you.

If the desire to be in a guild, where your opinion REALLY does matter, where EVERYONE is encouraged to take on roles more than just the "normal do what you are told" that is so prevelant.

If you are looking for a guild with a Code of Conduct...where the "rules" are vast and long appeal to you...then Bedlam is NOT for you.

If being treated like a 5th grader by overbearing officers and/or a micro-managing guild leader who DEMANDS to know what you are doing/saying and what ya had for dinner appeal to you...then Bedlam is NOT for you.

Bedlam was created by those who were tired of the "Zerg" approach that is like MANY standard guild policies: Outdated.

The strength of Bedlam is that it is ABLE to constantly change/adapt to WvWvW.  As GW2 has shown, any class can be any of the Holy Trinity essentially.  That alone dictates that the standard age-old Guild structure and how it operates needs to change.

Bedlam has been at the front of the charge since its creation that the MMO'ers now, are not as they were.  The "Alpha Dog's" are more prevelant then ever.  Those who WvWvW wtih a purpose and do NOT want to "join" the Zerg with an Ego-Maniacal person at the center, have been looking for a guild where THEY can quite frankly: Be themselves.

One thing that we have seen by how fast the guild has grown, is that there are MANY MANY groups of 4-6 friends and single or couples of MMO'ers that want just a FEW things:

1. Guild without 20 billion rules...
In Bedlam, just be cool.  Don't internal "Troll" another.  If you WvWvW with us...work WITH US.
That's basically the "rules"   Are those rules?  Nah...that is common sense and that doesn't NEED to be "posted" or "reminded" to members.

2.  Actual purpose to WvWvW instead of SIMPLE Zerg attacks...
In Bedlam, we are the EXACT opposite of the Zerg.  We have been and will continue to prove VERY quickly that the "old" Zerg way...is dying off.

3. A freakin' Guild Leader that doesn't micro-manage/control/dictate YOU as a member.
I have no "ego" that requires constant reminder of members.  I as a WvWvW player will serve ANY role that Bedlam needs.  If another "toon" is needed for a group that YOU are leading.  I am YOUR soldier to direct.
Not that long ago, a member of Bedlam asked if they could "suggest" a few forum changes.  I didn't ALLOW him to suggest forum changes.  Instead I said: Here are "rights" to change them...start changing the forum to "sharpen" it up.  Then, the most amazing thing happened.  OTHER members started chiming in ideas, thoughts, colors...
Next thing ya know, the website had a FULLY re-designed look to it.  It now looks FAR better than it did when just I did it originally.  I have no tolerance for Guild Leaders that "believe" whatever they do/say/think is perfect/flawless and always correct.  Guild Leaders are not super human or even infalable.

Does that "sound" like a typical Guild Leader?  How many wouldn't just allow...but say: Here ya go, if ya think you can do better. DO IT!

That is just one example of how I am as a Guild Leader.  So darn many "say" that they support/want to hear opinons and such, however they want to ONLY hear the ones that THEY agree with and chastize you for going against.  I don't play the "politics" game.  I only want 1 thing for ALL members of Bedlam:  I want them to have the BEST they can have in both GW2 AND Bedlam.

That simple desire I have, requires that a hands-off approach and allowing members to think on their own without being directed/pushed/told what to do or think.  Independent thought, ability to make decisions without having to "worry" if the powers will agree/back you up.  Bedlam was NOT created for the "standard" do what you are told MMO'ers.  It was created for those who want MORE out of a guild.

Come by Bedlam, see for yourself WHY Bedlam has grown so quickly, why our specialist mentality instead of a "Generalist" do everything approach is both more fun and far more rewarding both in-game and out of game.

Thank you in advance,

Tony

Focused, organized and NON-Zerg guild.

Seems that every post I have...has: More members joined Bedlam.

Amazing how an organized and focused guild can attract so many great people in such a short period of time.

With the many thousands of

With the many thousands of guilds to choose from, and the hundreds on Isle of Janthir why would or should you choose Bedlam?
Well, it depends upon your wants/needs as to how and what you plan on doing in Guild Wars 2.
Bedlam is able to literally define what it as a guild REALLY IS.

What Bedlam is:

PvE: Yes, we PvE…we LOVED PvE during all the Beta Events & Stress Tests.  Dungeons, world bosses…yes All of those things go into PvE.  All of those things ARE FUN, so there will be plenty of Bedlam members doing/playing PvE frequently.  How or what you do in PvE is totally up to you.  You are NOT required to be on any “RAID” schedule, or Boss Schedule.  I never liked “personally” the: You MUST be online on “x” days/hours to support your guild…if you cannot you get BOOTED philosophy.  I want you to enjoy logging into GW2 for your PvE gameplay.  With the dozens of members of Bedlam, there will always be someone online doing something that you will either be able to group up with or chat with on Vent while you do your own thing or whatever ya like.  World Bosses and situations where we know we will need “x” amount of people/types of characters.  We will put a sign up on the forum for whatever “event” it is.  If you want to participate…then put your name down.  If you don’t, then don’t sign up.  We keep it just that simple.

Crafting:  Crafters you officially have the HELP WANTED sign up and looking for you.  Crafting in GW2 from everything that we have seen and read about will be a GREAT aspect of GW2.  Crafters have a unique ability to help any/all guild members as the “gift” that keeps on giving.  Whether you are a limited crafter or the die-hard “I wanna be able to buy a small country” type of Crafter, we are looking for you.  In the many, many years of MMO’s I have played.  I have always respected the hell outta those few individuals whose sole purpose is to be “that guy/gal” you go to for Leather Armour or Jewelry or what-have-ya.  Gathering resources or sending coin “as payment” to one of your own who you know will make you the best piece of equipment possible and taking pride in doing so, to help out a member of their guild.  Those are among the best guild members that a guild could/can dream of having.

WvWvW: Ahh, this is where things are different.  Here is how it works:  If you WANT to WvWvW with Bedlam members, we operate in a squad system and we have a VERY focused WvWvW orientation.  We are literally the nicest group of people on Vent.  Our allied guilds that we communicate with regularly and coordinate our actions with regularly will be able to testify that we are laughing, joking and really are a jolly group of gamers.

How other servers will learn/discover about Bedlam:

However, to those on the opposing servers in WvWvW…we are literally your nightmare.  We ARE the Bad Guys, in that with our focused and coordinated approach, we literally are like the Vikings of the Dark Ages where we can and will be anywhere and causing the most damage possible and taking your stuff to make your stuff...our stuff. :D :D

One minute you are running on a road, after 15 minutes of “real life” running to the location of where the fighting is going on.  Then POOF! 10 seconds later…you are dead as a doornail.  All you see are boots running by you...as you are swearing about being "ganked"

You look at your “large” map, to see 3 Supply Camps showing “engagement” you start running towards it…to help them.  You look back at your map a couple minutes later.  POOF!  All 3 are totally in control of Isle of Janthir’s server now.

You go into a Tower to grab some supply to go and fight an epic fight at a Keep.  Sorry…you picked the wrong time to be in that Tower.  Bedlam’s team members decided or were asked to remove that Tower from your servers control. WE need that tower to support Isle of Janthir.  Within a few short minutes…your Tower has become OUR Tower.

That is how Bedlam operates in WvWvW.  We operate in small teams, and we have been and are literally writing the book on how to demoralize our enemy server’s WvWvW players.  That is what WvWvW is all about after all, it is no-holds barred, unrestricted warfare.  The only “actual” rules are whatever GW2 allows characters to do and not to do.  That aside, our sole focus is to scare the hell out of any/all enemies we come in contact with.  So far, we have been doing a great job at it.  With more members, we will have more and more ability to spread the terror onto our enemy servers.

Is this Elitist “talk”?  I don’t think so.  Is it Elitist to say: “Hey, we did a good job on that Tower!  Congrats and thanks guys!”  Do we ever consider telling guilds on OUR server that we are somehow better than they?  Hell no and to be frank…that is completely NOT tolerated in Bedlam.

It is NOT elitist to simply do what we have promised that we will do.  It is not elitist for Bedlam to help/support our allied guilds, to support our server and to do everything we can to help Isle of Janthir be as successful as possible.

So are we snobs? Heck no and we sure as hell will make sure that EVERYONE on Isle of Janthir only thinks of one thing when someone asks what is that BDLM Tag all about?  Hey, they are a great group of people! If your guild or group needs help and we are “close by” Just give us a “ring” if we are close enough by, you can bet we are THERE for your guild, group or yourself as an individual.  That is  what Bedlam is all about, about doing our level best to help Isle of Janthir as much as we absolutely can, while whichever server we are facing…literally dreads us and maybe even loathes us.

On Vent last night, about 8 of us were chatting about the “love/hate” relationship between Isle of Janthir's guilds and the opposing servers opinions with Bedlam and I likened Bedlam to the Dungeons & Dragons Character Alignment of: Chaotic Good.

Chaotic Good
Chaotic Good is known as the "Beatific," "Rebel," or "Cynic" alignment. A Chaotic Good character favors change for a greater good, disdains bureaucratic organizations that get in the way of social improvement, and places a high value on personal freedom, not only for oneself, but for others as well. They always intend to do the right thing, but their methods are generally disorganized and often out of alignment with the rest of society. They may create conflict in a team if they feel they are being pushed around, and often view extensive organization and planning as pointless, preferring to improvise.
Robin Hood, Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, and Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly are examples of Chaotic Good individuals. Eladrin are the outsider race representing Chaotic Good.

That literally describes Bedlam.  We have absolutely NO issue about being creative in how we cause the most damage to the enemy servers as possible.  Bedlam has no set “patterns” in how it attacks any specific target.  With the type of players we have and are attracting, there is no shortage of ideas and tactics to employ against anything.  What you see Bedlam do once, you may see it do something totally different the next time.  Bedlam is a fully adaptable guild.  If you read any of the previous “posts” here, you will see how ANYONE in Bedlam can/could/will be Squad Team Leaders.  The reality is: to have a guild such as Bedlam, 80% of the members we have and are attracting are the…Alpha Dog/Hunter-Killer types.  Those types of MMO’ers are very creative and are “used” to calling the shots.  What we have created was a guild, which allows MANY of those types of players to join together and take out our…aggressive PvP player tendencies on a central and focused target.  We really only have 1 “internal” rule, which is: Do NOT internal Troll your guild members.  That really is about it.  With how Bedlam operates and conducts its WvWvW aspects, the squads are literally totally independent as to how they achieve their objective.  I am firmly against the Guild Leader micro-managing “stuff” that I have seen over the years.

In Bedlam the squads plan/implement their destructive rampage locally.  So, it is completely in your hands as to how you will get it done.  My “job” is to make sure I have enough targets/locations for you guys/gals to raid/pillage/terrify the enemy servers players.

With the alliances that are being formed with Bedlam by some of the largest “member sized” guilds on Isle of Janthir, I will closely communicate with those large guilds to ensure that wherever they want to focus their main attack on, will be supported/cleared by Bedlam Squads.

Bedlam is always looking to ally itself with more and more guilds.  Again, the success of Bedlam in WvWvW is literally dependent upon inter-guild communications.  We aim to work with ALL guilds in GW2 and the experiences that players and guilds on Isle of Janthir will have with Bedlam will only be in a positive manner.

If being in a guild with friendly players, allied with friendly and wonderful guilds on Isle of Janthir and knowing that you are directly helping your server accomplish great things in WvWvW and where you are ABLE to be yourself, express yourself and be able to learn, create and refine and SHOW YOUR small unit tactics to others who think as you do.  If that is what you want on a WvWvW aspect of your GW2 gameplay, then Bedlam IS for you.

If you want to be able to PvE it up for as long as you want or craft as much as you want.  Bedlam is for you.  Bedlam members will be in PvE so often, that finding someone/group to PvE with, will never be an issue.

In Bedlam, we are proud of our focused approach that is only directed at WvWvW.  We are proud that PvE is fully supported and Crafting is fully supported as well.  The “about” 15 members that have joined in the past 2 weeks alone have literally been able to walk right into the guild, get acquainted with the folks here and its like we have known them for 10 years in such a short period of time.

Is that something to be proud of? Heck yeah!

If you have read all of this and are nodding your head and thinking: DAMN! That is the type of guild I have been looking for!  Then send me a PM or check out the guild website.
