Free World Transfers: Limited To Once Every 7 Days

ArenaNet confirmed late yesterday evening, that as of the 1 November, players will now only be able to transfer worlds once every 7 days instead of every 24 hours. The positive in this for those who do transfer servers more frequently is that they are actively working on the guesting feature as soon as possible.  You can find the full quote below or on the website here.

Due to community concerns about the effect of free transfers on world versus world, starting on November 1 we are going to change how often players are allowed to transfer worlds. After the update, players will be able to transfer worlds once every 7 days instead of once every 24 hours. We are also actively working on getting the guesting functionality in place. Thank you for your understanding.

I'm surprised at how long this change has taken to come about, but it can only be seen as a good thing. Population imbalances still exist and ArenaNet really need to knuckle down on server numbers to establish what they can and can’t do to combat the fluctuating player numbers. For some worlds, World versus World is impossible by the simple fact that too many people have left for different worlds, as a result of early losses.  This then creates a cycle of losing the low population server cannot get out of.

I must add that we really are in need of a guesting feature, simply because I cannot join friends on US servers (including colleagues on Guild Wars 2 Hub) without then sacrificing my play time with European friends.  I’m sure it is no easy feat to implementing guesting, but it definitely can’t come soon enough. If rumors are also true, perhaps it will arrive with the large content update in November.
